Revamping iOS App: Improving User Experience for Seamless Camping Reservations

OVERVIEW

Reserve America (RA Camping) provides real-time availability of thousands of camping and outdoor places, and discovers nearby or future trips. Also, a traveler can add the date and see the location according to the schedule with a simple reservation process.

PROJECT GOAL

Our team took up the challenge of creating a simple, playful, and functional solution to help the traveller. The purpose of the app is to redesign for travelers who can book camping sites quickly and check the all available features and amenities on location. Traveller also can use off-line maps. App filters campsites and lodging according to traveller needs, including price, group size, structure type, pet-friendliness, amenities (from toilets to outdoor kitchens), and access to activities such as hiking, fishing, and surfing.

RESEARCH

Our team completed research with information from the 2019 North American Camping Report. Based on the statistics of USA camping experience behavior 2014-2018, It shows that grew by 1.4 million, reaching a new high of 78.8 million households, where 50% of millennials camp often with the group. Approximately, 300,000 Campsites across the country. Campers have different choices to camp like a tent, RV, Cabin, and others.

Over 50 percent of new campers reported that tents were their primary accommodation. Cabins have increased in popularity among almost all campers, not only those new to camping, including millennials (from 14 percent in 2016 to 21 percent in 2018), Gen X (from 16 to 22 percent), and Baby Boomer campers (from 22 to 33 percent).

After conducting user interviews, I created an Affinity Diagram, which illuminated motivations and pain points for the Primary Persona.

WIREFRAMS
During the wireframing process, the major challenge we faced to make a simple and iconic layout. Conserving battery power, we planned to make a dark theme layout.Dark themes reduce the luminance emitted by device screens, it helps to improve visual ergonomics by reducing eye strain, adjusting the brightness to current lighting conditions. We went through several different ideas of the wireframing to arrive at the final decision.

WELCOME SCREEN

Setting an onboarding screen as a promotion filed will give a piece of information about what kind of features are in the application. It will be visible when the user opens the application the first time.

The Journey to a better camping​

User can register in two simple steps, Either login of facebook account or personal email account, which helps the user to save favorite places, reservation, view past and new campsite booking and discover future trips. After registration user can add favorite activities.
